Creature Feature

Native to the east coast of Australia, from Gladstone to Melbourne, Australia’s largest bat is also known as the Fruit Bat. As this name suggests fruit is an important component of its diet. The Grey-headed Flying Fox also eats nectar and pollen from Eucalypts, Banksias and Melaleucas, and is therefore an important pollinator and seed disperser. Flying Foxes occur in a wide range of ecosystems, often forming large camps within forests. Breeding occurs from January to April, with the single young born October-November.
