The Speakers

Kosciuszko National Park, Richard Swain, Indigenous guide and Reclaim Kosci campaign coordinator.

Having spent his life in the Snowy Mountains Richard has seen first-hand the huge impact feral animals are having on the park and the threatened species that rely on Kosciuszko for survival. He is passionate about educating the public on the true history of landscape changes and degradation over the past 230 years.

Marine Conservation, Sanctuaries and Sydney, David Booth, Professor of Marine Ecology, UTS.

David has published over 120 papers in reef-fish ecology, climate change and other anthropogenic impacts on fishes and fisheries. He is also a strong advocate of sustainable fisheries and marine parks.

The future of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, Gary Dunnett, NPA Executive officer.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has called for input to the development of a new Plan of Management for Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. As an ex-Sydney Region NPWS manager for NPWS, Gary will discuss why the park is special and how we can have a say about future management of the park.

Sydney Region Bushwalking Program, Matt McClelland, Bushwalking Manager

It was Jacques Cousteau who said “People protect what they love”, this is why the NPA runs a  bushwalking program to help people spend time in and fall in love with nature. Sydney Branch has an incredible opportunity to reach 5m people, helping them better appreciate the value of native landscapes across the whole state. If you draw a circle around Sydney, you will find that half of it bushland, let start by helping the people of Sydney enjoy the greener half of this amazing city.

FAQs

Who is this event for?

This event is for NPA members who live in the Sydney Region. This area includes the Blue Mountains, the Hawkesbury area, and areas of Greater Sydney that aren’t in Southern Sydney Branch and Macarthur Branch.

But all are welcome!

If you’re an interested NPA member from outside of this area, or a non-member, please come along and find out what exciting things the Sydney Region branch has planned.

Priority for the Sydney Branch launch will be given first to NPA members. Any guests (non-members) that are interested, please RSVP and you will be put on a waitlist. If there are still spots available, these will be released to the non-member waitlist 3 days before the launch.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

We recommend using public transport, as the Dougherty Centre is located within a 5-minute walk from the Chatswood Interchange (Trains and buses) via Chatswood Mall turning right in to Victor St.

If you’re arriving via car, parking at the centre is limited. We suggest parking at Chatswood Westfield Parking across the road (0 – 3 hrs is FREE, 3 – 3.5 hrs is $7)
