Conversations at Ukerbarley

Anne Dickson, Lynne Hosking and Helen Webb

Jane Judd arranged for us to visit Ukerbarley, a Gamilaraay-NPWS co-managed Gazetted Aboriginal Area covering an area of 1,483ha. It was created in February 2011 after the land was sold to NPWS by Jane and her husband Milton. This was a singular privilege as the area has no public access at present.

Pilliga Field Trip

Rachel Fitzhardinge
State Councillor, National Parks Association of NSW

Pat Schultz has been very active in the campaign against Coal Seam Gas (CSG) exploration in the Pilliga. She has written a book titled “The Plundering of Pilliga and Leard Forests and the Surrounding Farmlands”. She has also led many tours like this one to show people what is happening in the Pilliga as a result of CSG exploration. In 2014, Pat “locked-on” to a truck carrying a drill rig in Pilliga Forest for a number of hours. She was arrested and fined $1,800.

Pilliga pillaged: Mark Speakman needs to come clean on ‘ecological thinning’

The reaction to The Greens David Shoebridge’s comments on timber harvesting in the Pilliga forest confirm what environment groups have long suspected: that the timber industry sees ‘ecological thinning’ as a lifeline says the National Parks Association of NSW.

Recent ABC media stories have highlighted the appalling destruction of the Pilliga forest, the largest inland forest left in NSW, as a result of overestimates of wood supply by Forestry Corporation.
